Rainwater by Sandra Brown

Do you belong to a book club? Do you think RAINWATER belongs on your book club's 2010 calendar? Carol at bookreporter.com, had this to say about RAINWATER: ..."a powerfully moving novel celebrating the gifts, generosity and foresight of a great bygone generation."

Admittedly, I'm biased but I think RAINWATER is a perfect book for book clubs and that's why we're doing a contest just for you. If your book club selects RAINWATER for their 2010 schedule, please drop us a line and let us know (Contact information is at the bottom of this email).

The first ten book clubs to notify us that they’ve added RAINWATER to their schedule will receive personalized bookplates and RAINWATER tissue packets and will be entered to win a 1-hour phone call with me to discuss the book. The contest will run through December 31, 2009 or until we have ten finalists.

Book for Mistie

Front Cover
H
ey Mistie,

Just thinking of you and thought this book will do wonders for your writing. The title is "It Sleeps In Me by Kathleen O'neal Gear. She wrote "People of the Moon" too. Her husband writes as well.
The story goes when the Chieftess, Sora of the Black Falcon Nation, is faced with warring clans and is about to go on a mission, she runs into an old friend. Skinner,
a friend of her ex-husband, Flint, comes to Sora with a shocking message: Flint is dead, but his shadow soul lives within Skinner, and he must tell Sora Flint's last words. There's magic, murder, and erotic love scenes that you will be in captured with. I give it 4 stars. -Acene

drumroll please...

alright good folks, the next book to read is Elantris, by Brandon Sanderson. We have it at our beloved store and Suzanne even found it online for like $2.50! It was top sci-fi release the year it came out (2005) and the author himself has published thought provoking (maybe even borderline existential?) book group discussion questions for our enjoyment :) So have at it!

(yes, I realize you may have now read this twice... that is the value of copy & paste. Why be creative when there are so many good authors out there being paid to do that?)

Flatland Complete

I finally finished Flatland. My lord for such a short book you have to take in alot of information. I have to say it got better when you went out of Flatland. It was very interesting and you can interchange something from history if you think abou the time it was written and what was going on. I really liked that historical element, not so much that they used math (of all things) but I understand why. Math is universal.

PS ->Good luck Allison, you can do it!

I Am Feeling Very Quotes Today

"I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals."
-- Winston Churchill

To the Rose upon the Rood of Time
by William Butler Yeats

Red Rose, proud Rose, sad Rose of all my days!
Come near me, while I sing the ancient ways:
Cuchulain battling with the bitter tide;
The Druid, grey, wood-nurtured, quiet-eyed,
Who cast round Fergus dreams, and ruin untold;
And thine own sadness, whereof stars, grown old
In dancing silver-sandalled on the sea,
Sing in their high and lonely melody.
Come near, that no more blinded by man's fate,
I find under the boughs of love and hate,
In all poor foolish things that live a day,
Eternal beauty wandering on her way.

Come near, come near, come near—Ah, leave me still
A little space for the rose-breath to fill!
Lest I no more hear common things that crave;
The weak worm hiding down in its small cave,
The field-mouse running by me in the grass,
And heavy mortal hopes that toil and pass;
But seek alone to hear the strange things said
By God to the bright hearts of those long dead,
And learn to chaunt a tongue men do not know.
Come near; I would, before my time to go,
Sing of old Eire and the ancient ways:
Red Rose, proud Rose, sad Rose of all my days.

Maya Banks - Sweet Seduction
Blurb:
He was the stuff erotic dreams are made of
Salon owner Julie Stanford wanted Nathan Tucker ever since she gave him his first massage. Getting paid to feel every inch of his body, stripped, oiled, and spread out in front of her? Unfortunately, he came around too late. Now Julie’s moving on…
She was everything he’d dreamed of
The woman was driving him crazy. She lit fire to his insides then ran like a scalded cat. And now she’s going to someone else to have all her fantasies fulfilled? Shelly Laurenston - "The Mane Event" in Mass Market format
Blurb:
CHRISTMAS PRIDE
How come all the good-looking ones are insane? That's what runs through NYPD cop Desiree "Dez" MacDermot's mind the minute she hooks up again with her childhood buddy, Mace Llewellyn. It isn't just the way he stares at her with those too-sexy gold eyes-as if he could devour her on the spot. Or the six-four, built-like-a-Navy Seal bod-o-death. It isn't even that he sniffs her neck and purrs, making her entire body tingle. It's more about that disconcerting, shifting-from-man-to-lion thing that unhinges her…and makes her want more. Mace likes making Dez crazy. In fact, he likes her any way he can get her-in bed, on the desk, here, now, again. Together, they'd always been trouble, but Dez has no idea just how good trouble can feel…
SHAW'S TAIL
Brendon Shaw, hotel owner and lion shifter, has seen better days. He's been beaten, had a gun to the back of his head, and had to be rescued by a Pack of shape-shifting wolves. He didn't think he'd survive the night, much less find the woman of his dreams. And he never thought the woman of his dreams would have a Tennessee accent and wear cowboy boots. Once he sets his sights on her, the predator in him is ready to pounce and never let go. Ronnie Lee Reed is ready to change her life, and New York City is the place where any girl-even one who runs with a Pack-can redefine herself. First order of business: find a mate, settle down, and stop using men for sex. Even big, gorgeous, lion-shifting, oh-my-what-big-um-paws-you-have men. Then again…
