RIP Mr. Zinn

All I want to say about Howard, is thank you for all that he has done for American. Just in case you didn't know all the wonderful he has done I'll give you the low down. He is from a poor Jewish, factory family in Brooklyn, NY. He was a in the Air Force during WWII as a bombardier. Which he regret. He was head of the department of social science at Spelman College, which made a lot of noise and racket's in the 60s. He influence students to stand up against segregation in schools. it was so bad that the school had 30 violations jjust on the first and fourteenth amendment, lol. He wrote many articles about segregation during the time of John FK wrote some to Edgar Hoover, about the end of segregation. Zinn is all about civil rights and education and that's why I love him. He tells the history from the people's eyes in their own words, not lies you were taught school. I would definitely miss him I just wish I will have the chance to meet him. RIP Mr. Zinn

Get into the right lane and stop at the stop sign.

Turn right at this stop sign, onto Turner Warnell.

The first street you'll see on your right is Oak Hollow Drive. Turn onto this street and look for 8116, which will be on your left hand side.

Take North Cooper down to Harris. Harris will be on your right. (You'll see a YMCA)*

Take Harris until it runs out and turn left onto Calendar.

Travel Calendar up until you see Turner Warnell--turn right onto Turner Warnell.

(There will be two stop signs to go through).

The first street sign that you'll see after the second stop sign will be Oak Hollow Dr. Turn onto this street and look for 8116, which will be on your left hand side.

Hello my fellow book worms, I went ahead and choose Outlander for the month of Feb. going into March. As it was informed to me, you can find it for $4.50 or so at the Half Price Book Store. I will be hosting it at my home with a dinner. Ideas are welcome. fyi: I would like to host a sleep over at my place, maybe in mid-March.

On the post for Thursday, August 13. It was about the celebration of reading with the Bushes and the one that cost like a $150. Well it stated that many other authors besides AJ JAcobs would be there, guess who was one of those other authors ...
no not that person try again
close but nope, not that one either ...
well if you didn't guess right, it was Sandra Brown.
Makes me sad because if I had known that both of them would of be there I would of saved up $150 to support the cause but also get to be in a room with really amazing writers. Just thought I would share my sad face ... :(

ATTN: Ladies...!!

I just wanted to give you a heads up on the matter of actually locating this book. There seems to be some difficulty in finding this particular piece at any local bookstore. I, naturally, chose a book that (because it was the author's first work) was only printed in limited amounts across the country. I spoke with someone at Barnes & Noble, who told me that this typically happens with books by relatively 'unknown' authors.

HOWEVER, the book is available on several websites:

1. bn.com --they have several copies for around $5.50 or so.
2. half.com-- prices seem to be around $5.79 and up, as Jennifer mentioned.
3. amazon.com-- on this particular site, prices started at around $10

Sorry that this has become such a hassle. If I'd known it would be this difficult, I wouldn't have chosen this book. But I do know that'll be worth it--I promise!

I've ordered my copy from Amazon and am expecting to receive it on Monday (the 14th).

My story of the last 35 pages!

I finally finshed Elantris at 12:45am. I would of been done sooner but at 9 I had to go pick up bobby from work. At this point I have 35 pages left. But we went to Best Buy, then we went to Michelle's house to see ber christmas decorations. Which are really beautiful.

While we are at Michelles house I keep my book in my hand waiting for the moment I will not be drawn into a conversation and be able to sit on her loveseat and just read. It would not be considered rude, they are use to me having a book in my hand and casually opening the pages and getting lost in the story as they communicate around me.

Unfortunally, Michelle and I talked about christmas decor and other things, along with James Patterson, (she totally loves him and wants me to get him to come to arlington so she can meet him and kiss him. So cute, I know). She wants me to read kiss the girls and we talked about Pattersons characters.

Now I am having an internal battle, I love talking about books and characters and authors, but I also want to finish this book. What do I do? There are so many ways I can get out of this conversation and loose myself in the corner of the room and no one would be the wiser, but the way Michelle is talking about how good this story line is and the characters has my interest just as well.

I come to the finally decision to just stay in the conversation. I mean 35 pages won't take me very long, so from a little after 9 all the way to 12:13 I have 35 pages left. It was killing me not to be able to read and find out how it ends (and no I will not tell you). I get home, get under the covers and pick up the book and with much suspence in my mind I read the last 35 pages and love every waking moment of.

Arwen you picked an amazing book, I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I was so excited when I finished I had to text elizabeth (sorry liz, I know it was late but I just had to share the news)!

For those of you who have not yet even made a dent in the book, it is truly good and it keeps you on your toes in all the right spots.

My question of the day, who else has finished it or where are you in the book, you still have 5 more days to finish it. Good luck and happy readings.

Considering Saturday Nov 28, 2009 for the book club meeting instead of sunday because Arwen does not get off tell 10pm. If everyone is okay meeting that late then it will stay sunday, if not it will be late saturday night (don't remember the time everyone is available), unless we can all come up with another solution.

Meeting Vote - Elantris

We seem to be coming to a hard conclusion on when we should meet for the review of "Elantris." Arwen frist suggested before Thanksgiving. Then we found out some members have not even started this months' book club pick. So Arwen said we could meet after Thanksgiving and Suzzie asked about Nov 30.

I think we should put it to a vote. When do you think we should meet up?

4th International Book Fair, Dallas, Texas

The J. Erik Jonsson Central Library is hosting its fourth international book fair in October to promote the love for books, reading and writing. The event will be held on October 30, 31 and November 1st, 2009. Please save the date!
The event is free and open to the public. International, national and local authors will be reading and signing books. Cultural programs will again include artistic performances, poetry reading, music and children activities. Here is an online video about the Festival, in Spanish.
